Easter Sunday....

TYesterday I posted the photos from the Easter Sunday breakfast in the main buffet.

After breakfast we tottered back to our spots by the adults only pool.  Kevs topped up with spf 50 on his back, and a double cover of spf 6 & 10 everywhere else, which hes convinced himself equals spf 16!!! 😎😎😎😎😎😎 lol! Nutter!

I had a new kittie come to lay and stay yesterday, a teeny tiny kitten all big ears and eyes!  She just hopped onto the bed and literally flopped beside mefor a cuddle!  I was more than happy especially as I aint getting any off Kev!!  Lol!

I finished my second book - 'the summer house' by Santa Montefiore.  A so so holiday chick book, easy enough, but not demanding! Lol!

An easy lunch in the buffet, where I managed to delete yesterdays blog post just as I finished writing it! Grrrrrrr!!  Then more lazing by the pool.

Yesterdays towel art.....

After a nap in our room we headed off to the asian restaurant, which is by far the best restaurant weve been to here.   Kev had bought a bottle of wine in the shop about €20 and we also brought along his single malt.  The wine was awful, but the single malt and coke went down a treat! Lol! Sacreligious I know, but the alcohol here is seriously bad, and I realised I had a bad allergic reaction to the lemon caprinho's so Ive been almost dry for a few days!!  Unheard of I know!!! Lol!

I will say, the coffee from the bars is excellent, really really good barista coffee, so I've been ramped up on caffeine lol!

Anyways, back to our meal.  Lots of sushi, hot and cold starters, a good range of chinese noodles, rice, sweet and sour dishes etc and one spectacularly hot curry!! Lol!  We all of us really enjoyed the meal.  It was buffet but the best one here by far.

Heres the photos.

After dinner, feeling no pain from the single malt, we retired to the bar for a few games of rummikub, before hitting our rooms at 9.45!!! We love this rock and roll lifestyle!! Lol!

Happy easter!

This was yesterdays post which I mistakenly deleted grrrrrrrr!!!

Happy easter from sunny Cape Verdi!

We were greeted this morning in the restaurant by champagne, bucks fizz, chicken pancakes, easter pastries, died eggs and chocolate covered almonds

Back to yesterday......

Kev in his infinate wisdom had decided that after only one day of sun bathing, he could drop to a spf 6.......needless to say, hes as red as a rooster!   Hes spent today yelling 'dont touch my back!' - 'cuddles' are out of the question..... This holiday keeps getting better! Lol!

A lazy pool day, cuddles with my kittie, then we were booked into the gourmet restaurant for dinner.

This restaurant is available to book by the residents of the adults only section.  On arrival we were greeted with glasses of champagne and little prawn and salmon appetisers.

The wines here are drinkable - hoorah!!!

The ambiance and presentation was lovely, however the food was only so so.  I ordered the pumpkin soup with ravioli, which was nice, the fillet steak which wasnt, and the apple tart which was ok.  Linda said the steak dish looked like it had cats chuck up on it! It sure tasted like it! Yuk!!

However, we had a nice evening - must of been the wine! Lol! Heres the menu

More tomorrow!

What a difference a day makes!

The suns out! Hoorah!!  After three days of cold and cloud, we have a beautiful blue sky, hot weather and a cool breeze - perfect!!

Spent the day at the adultsonly pool yesterday, just chillaxing!  Its a lovely little pool set on one side of the resort for guests of the adult only section.  Yesterday at lunchtime there was entertainment, music and dancing along with some dubois (dubious!!!) champagne!  It made for a nice little interlude!

The towel hun has a good book swap i side!

I made a friend by the pool, the pregnant kittie came up to spend some time on my lounger lol!

Last night after a nap, we went to the African restaurant for a meal - being good friday I found it really difficult to choose anything that was not meat or fish (i rarely eat fish), and ended up with salad and chips 😟. Not sure what Id do all week if I was a true vegetarian.

A few drinks in the bar and an early night.  Not much to report - same ol same ol!

More tomorrow!

Friday 25 March 2016

Cold, cold, cold......

I am so cold! Its so cloudy with a strong wind here, I feel that I should be braving the elements but I really want to crwawl into bed with a hot water bottle lol!  Kev took this pictire of me at lunchtime, where Im sitti g with Lindas cardi wrapped around my neck and her hat on my head! Lol! Not a good look, but warmer!

Another lazy day yesterday of doing nothing except reading, embroidering and surfing the internet - seriously, theres nothing here to do!!!  Especially when the weathers crap! Lol! Found a good book in the book swap cabin, 'The Tea Planters Wife' by Dinah Jefferies - keeping me entertained!

Linda and Mum having morning coffee and brandy!

Linda said she feels like shes in prison, and counts the meals off each day as the only relief from the boredom! We were sitting in the bar late this afternoon, when Kev jumped up and started packing his stuff away.  I said 'you ok?' And he literally shouted like a kid having a tantrum 'I'M BORED!' Picked up his stuff and went back to the room! It was so funny!!

We had some towel art in our room last night

So last night we had booked into the Boa Vista restaurant which is basically a Cape Veridean fish restaurant. Not my cup of tea, but I ate some thing around the fish.  Mum & Linda had the mixed seafood platter which looked nice and Kev and me had the meat kebabs, which werent! Lol!

Still havent found a drink I like except for the lemon cipriahno......

Literally nothing to report.........hey ho.......

Heres some pictures of the resort! Lol!

First full day

Yesterday was our first full day, and we woke up to the most overclouded day ever! It was grey and windy all day, but no problem for us! We set up in the main square, all four of us tapped into the excellent wifi! Or reading or in my case embroidering.

Forgot to mention that I flooded the bathroom yesterday (as some of you know, we've had a problem with water in our rooms previously and this years no exception.....).  I turned on the shower from outside, only to be drenched full face on in freezing cold water as the shower head had been turned to face the door, literally gallons poured into the room before my rescuer could save me.  Yep, another flooded room! Kev mopped up with the bath mat, squeezing it out in between.  Hey ho!

First impressions of the hotel are good with a couple of exceptions.  The hotel is vast 880 rooms on a large sprawling estate.  We upgraded to the adults only area of the hotel, which means we get exclusive use of the adults only pool and bar, wifi in the pool area, bottles of alcohol in the bedroom and a mini bar.

After a lovely lunch yesterday heres the photo of the chicken, salad filled poppadum from yesterdays post

We strolled out to the pool area, this is a lovely little oasis of calm! But boy was it cold! So we sat under the bar canopy! Lol! my boss assures me the weathers going to pick up on Friday so fingers crossed!

In the evening we had a lovely meal in the main restaurant - i have to say here that the food is very good, lots of choice, all very fresh and well seasoned, however, as is usual with Riu hotels, its all buffet style.  Weve booked into the four speciality restaurants later in the week, but they are also buffet style.  I think this is where Riu fall down on their 5*'s compared to the likes of EPM.

This and the alcohol, which is truly horrendous......cheap manufactured synthetic nastyness, really really bad! Everything Ive tried so far has been unpalatable except the lemon caipirinha. And the wine yuk!!! We're going to be drinking Kevs single malt with coke the rest of the week!!

Anyways - Theres lots of cats around the resort that come up and chat which suits me as i love them!

Last night, we had another nice meal, followed by the jazz show - lots of miming and dancing to the score of chicago - it was surprising good! Lol! Then off to bed!  More tomorrow!

Riu Touareg, Boa Vista, Cape Verdi

Wednesday 23rd March
Here we are, in Cape Verdi, for a week of winter/spring sunshine over Easter.  We arrived yesterday afternoon from Gatwick, Kev, Mum, Linda & Me to a teeny airport on one of the Cape Verdi Island's Boa Vista.

A 2.30am alarm got us ready for the 4am drive to Gatwick, a really quick check in, then breakfast before I hit the shops!  Love a bit of duty free! Chanel perfume, mascara and eyeshadows, whisky and aftershave for Kev (a new blended single malt called monkey shoulder was his whisky du jour!) and an accessory for his go-pro which if we'd bought on amazon prime one day earlier, would have cost us £20 less! But then he wouldnt have had it for the holiday! Lol! Gotta love my hubby 😘

The flight was 6 hours, not too bad, and we mainly occupied ourselves with sleeping (well it was a 2.30am wake up to go to Gatwick!) and movies on the iPad.

On arrival at the aforementioned teeny airport, we queued for passport control.  I wish Id got a photo as it really struck me how much like a disney ride queue it looked!!  All these people, snaking back and forward in a roofless adobe building painted in terracotta colours.  We could have been queuing for the indiana jones ride at universal no problem!! Lol!

Luggage collected we went outside to board the oldest tattiest coach ever, before heading onto a dust and stone track (i cant call it a road, because it wasnt!!) dodging goats, boulders, and the very occasional vehicle coming in the opposite direction!  The first 15 minutes were almost as if we were now on the Disney ride, bouncing up and down, side to side lol!

Heres the views from the window of the barren lanscape and stone strewn road!

After 15 minutes we hit a tarmac road.  Now I should point out the with the exception of the airport and a few adobe house near the airport, we saw no dwellings or people on the whole of our 30 minute journey.

After 30 minutes, we noticed a golden shimmery lifesize sandcastle in the distance, right on the blue sea edge.  The huge sprawling oasis is the 5* Riu Touareg, according to TA the number one hotel in Boa Vista.  It looked so impressive, almost as if all the buildings had been sculpted from sand, and so at odds with the surrounding nothingness! Lol!

Check in was fairly quick and easy, Id emailed ahead and made some room requests which were all honoured, with Kev and me getting a top floor suite in the adults only section, with mum & Auntie Linda next door.  The sea views are lovely from the balcony.

Heres our room - Excuse the unmade bed!

We had a drink at the bar, and I set up everyones ipad onto the free and really good wifi - Excellence resorts should take note!

A quick nap then back to the bar for pre dinner drinkies, a meal, a show and an early night.

Now, the weather is very overcast today and its extremely windy - believe me, Elnett 'brick' hold wont do any good here!!!

This morning, after breakfast, we sat in the main square, just read, caught up on facebook etc until lunchtime were I had a fabulous lunch of poppadum filled with cooked chicken and salad - seriously yum!!

So thats it, a dull first day! Lets see what tomorrow brings! BFN! X
